idényt is Danish for “new ideas”. And that is precisely what this free magazine delivers to the 2.8 million households in Denmark. In idényt the readers find articles and ads about all there is to know about house and garden. Ever since 1978, this house magazine of idényt has been delivered to every household in Denmark, with 10 issues a year and in 8 different version. idényt earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records for being the world’s largest free magazine. Flemming Pedersen, System Administrator, has the difficult task to make the production workflow run smoothly and without problems. With this high output volume, the time issue is a major concern.
Time is everything
“The time issue was the main reason for automation,” says Flemming Pedersen, “we wanted to save time.The PDF handling is now fully automated, which means it is much faster and we avoid human errors. The PDFs are checked and corrected, we even remove pages from the PDF if needed.” “We integrated PitStop Server, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat and also Pageflex for variable publishing and MediaBank for digital asset management. It is much faster to run this workflow on a server than on a local machine.”
Keeping the overview
“We can send files to ftp-servers and check which customer the file comes from and put it directly in the correct folder.”
“We know where the file has been, who touched it and where it is supposed to go. Before PowerSwitch, we ‘scripted’ the way to get the files around in our system. Every time we had a new program or a new hot folder we wanted to save in the progress, it took a lot of manpower. Now we just create a new flow in PowerSwitch and it’s much faster,” Flemming concludes.

Connect
PowerSwitch will be one of the main programs in our system. It will be a central part of a series of programs, to follow up the files and metadata and for connecting with other programs such as the image database, our CRM system and Pageflex.
